About

LatheScapes is the web site of Allen Alexopulos.  Allen produces custom woodturning art in Annapolis, Maryland. He strives to create unique turned objects from many trees species including walnut, cherry, holly, maple, poplar, beech, oak, Norway pine, mulberry and pear.  Most of the pieces turned by Allen are "harvested" from trees that have already been cut down and are usually destined for disposal in a fireplace, woodstove or trash dump.  He has spent the last decade developing his woodturning skills.  Allen has taught classes at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts and has demonstrated woodturning techniques at a number of venues in the Mid-Atlantic area.

Allen is a member of the American Association of Woodturners (AAW), the Maryland Federation of Art, and the Chesapeake Woodturners.  Additional images of Allen's work can be viewed in the AAW Members' Gallery.

Artistic Goal

Allen's artistic goal is to draw as much of the natural figure, texture and color out of the wood as is possible.  Simple shapes combined with graceful curvatures amplify the beauty of his turnings.  Many representative examples of his work are included on the LatheScapes web site.  Each of the objects depicted on this site contains a link to a high  resolution image.  By examining the high resolution imagery, we hope that you will enjoy the wonderful figure and colors that nature has given to these pieces.  Make sure you use the maximum zoom capability of your browser to fully enjoy these images!
